In summer 1993, my mother Joan Suda was hurting over an acute loss, and my grandmother Aurelia "Rullie" Suda (her mother-in-law) gave her this new book, "Through The Mickle Woods", written by Valiska Gregory, with beautiful illustrations by Barry Moser.
As a kid, I remember the book, and I liked it fine. But I don't remember being emotionally affected by it. As an adult, as with so many masterful works of art and music and story (and ritual), I find myself frequently moved by their deep meaning.
I'm so grateful for all the art given to me, to my mother for offering so much of it, and to my grandmother for offering just as much from a different quarter.
It's impossible to be cynical when you're filled with gratitude.

Happy Mother's Day 2021, folks.
