“Present Yourself to God” (Transitions #7) - (February 25, 2024)

Dr. Larry Baucom concludes our Transitions series with “Present Yourself to God” - challenging us to present ourselves before the Love that accompanies and transforms us through life’s transitions.

Drawing inspiration from Exodus 33:1-17, the teaching unfolds with four insights.

Point 1: Let’s start over again…with fresh empty tablets/ hearts.

Despite the failures of Israel in their worship of the golden calf and Moses’ breaking of the tablets of the Law, it was time to start over. The promise of new tablets points to forgiveness and restoration. Pastor reminds us that occasionally we will be confronted with challenges on the journey and all that is required of us during these transitions is a willingness to change.

Point 2: Present yourself to God. The people of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments.

Dr. Baucom explains the symbolism of Israel’s action as the surrendering of Egypt and their slave mentality to embrace new possibilities. He encourages us to present ourselves to God, strip ourselves of false notions of God, and to trust God’s compassionate love.

Point 3: We need to find time to renew our commitment to the teachings of Jesus.

Drawing strength from His love, we can commit to the teachings of Jesus, “turn the other cheek”, forgive others and ourselves, and love as God loves.

Point 4: The presence within can be seen by others.

Following his encounter with God, Moses' face shone with God’s glory. Pastor reminds us that the same glow can be seen on the faces of Christ followers when they realize for the first time that God loves them despite their failures. It is this love that calls us to transition from where we are to ever-increasing joy. We all have the privilege to share the glow of God’s love with the world around us! As St. Paul wrote, “And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another…” (2Co. 3:18).
