My name is Joanna. I have a speech disorder called Speech Apraxia. Apraxia is a speech sound disorder where one has trouble saying words correctly. The brain knows what it wants to say, but cannot say the sounds properly. I am educating people on what it's like living with Speech Apraxia or any disability, but I am focusing on my disability the most.As some of you may know toy companies make dolls with disabilities or differences. The toy company has introduced many dolls with disabilities such as hearing aids, wheelchairs, prosthetic legs, plus a Ken doll with vitiligo on his face. Mattel even introduced a doll with Down Syndrome, but no company has made a doll with a speech disorder that could relate to those of us who struggle with a speech disorder.


My plan is to email toy companies to see if they ever thought about making a doll that comes with a speech device to relate to children who struggle with a speech disorder.
