What is so special about The Villages in Florida?

Imagine living in a city the size of Manhattan where the landscaping is mature and perfectly manicured and instead of a Central Park there are over 50 golf courses along the rolling hills and lakes. Golf carts are the main method of transportation and you have 3 town squares that take you back in time to different locations like you are in a movie set.

This is why The Villages at times are referred to as "the bubble" there is no where else on earth you can find something like it. It seems too utopian for many that they think there must be a catch somewhere.

What is The Villages Florida famous for?

Have you ever heard of the term "free golf for life"? There are 55 golf courses in The Villages. 42 of them are executive courses with 9 hole layouts, these courses offer residents free golf for life. The other 13 are country club championship courses, most of them 27 hole layouts with a couple of them 18. There are also several golf instruction academy's for all skill levels.

Do I need to own a golf cart to live in The Villages FL?

The short answer is no but you may want to, here's why.
In Florida you don't need to register or insure a golf cart. The infrastructure for using a golf cart to get around in The Villages has been prioritized and there are over 100 miles of trails dedicated for golf cart use. There are 2 big bridges for golf carts to cross the big roads and hundreds of tunnels that making it a very safe and fun way to get around.
In the town squares it will be a little easier to find parking and there are designated areas for fueling and servicing your golf cart.
Locals estimate that there are over 60,000 golf carts in the Villages.

To live in The Villages FL it's only 3% higher than the national average cost of living making it very affordable.
There is FREE live entertainment 365 days a year at all 3 town squares giving us a special place to get together and socialize with friends and neighbors.

The First is Lake Sumter Landing. It is the largest square and it has a seaside town theme that is absolutely beautiful looking over Lake Sumter.
The second is Spanish Springs and this area has been designed to pay tribute to the early Spanish settlers here in Florida.
The 3rd is the newest Brownwood Paddock square, it's reminiscent of an early 19th center Florida Cattle Town.

Can anyone come visit The Villages FL?

Yes The Village Restaurants and town squares are open to the public and there are many hotels to accomodate visitors.

What are the dissadvantages of living in The Villages FL?

The biggest dissadvantage of living in The Villages is the location. You are in Florida but still about 2 hours from the nearest beach which is Daytona Beach on the East Coast. The closest beach on the gulf is Clearwater Beach and it would also be over a 2 hour drive.

Why do people leave The Villages FL?

The most common answer is to move closer to family or grandkids. All throughout south west Florida this is something that comes up from time to time that people want to move closer to their kids. Some really enjoying their grandkids and would like to be more involved vs seeing them around the holidays. Everyone is in a different season and stage in life. Because The Villages is a 55+ community it makes it harder for family to make the move with you.

Another reason that comes up is people want to move closer to the water. For many this is a seasonal home and they would like to take advantage of the water and enjoy the beach life for a season.

I also know of people who sold their beach home and beach condo and moved to downtown to enjoy that life for a season.
