It marks the debuts of his son Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel. The film featured Hrithik in a double role as characters Rohit and Raj. The story was inspired from the Kannada blockbuster Ratha Sapthami (1986) starring Shivarajkumar and Asharani.
