SpaceX REVEALS A 3D-Printed Starships: 300 Starhips Per Year

Musk has hinted in the past that SpaceX might require 1,000 Starships to allow for frequent flights between Earth and Mars, with one spacecraft being built each week. Musk implied that in order for SpaceX to establish a Mars community, the company may need to construct Starships even more quickly in a recent post on his social media platform, X. And so, how do you think will SpaceX make this happen? Let’s find out!

Hey folks! Welcome back to Elon Musk Evolution, where we bring you the most recent news about Elon Musk and his multibillion-dollar companies, space news, and the latest science and technology.

"To achieve Mars colonization in roughly three decades, we need ship production to be 100/year, but ideally rising to 300/year," Musk stated in a post.

The goal that SpaceX continues to pursue is the quick reuse of the Starship and its Super Heavy rocket. The main point is that the ship will not be reused as frequently as the booster because it is the component that would go into orbit and eventually land on the Moon or Mars. These ships will be available in several different forms, such as fuel depots, refueling ships, satellite deployers, and crew and cargo transporters.

Each and every type of ship in the fleet will have the same booster design. Almost six minutes after liftoff, the Super Heavy—which has over thirty Raptor engines—will also return to SpaceX's launch pads, in a manner similar to how the company now retrieves its Falcon boosters. The booster might be prepared for another launch in an hour, according to Musk's assumption.

The laws of physics and geographical reality intersect with the Starship itself. The Super Heavy and Starship launch and landing pads that SpaceX will initially use are located in South Texas and Cape Canaveral, Florida. However, the company has expressed interest in using launch and landing platforms offshore.

When an object is in low-Earth orbit, the Earth spins beneath it. This implies that following a single, ninety-minute orbit around the globe, a satellite, or Starship, will find itself displaced by around 22.5 degrees in longitude from its launch site. A Starship in low-Earth orbit may need several hours or maybe a day to align with one of the recovery locations.

"The ship needs to complete at least one orbit, but often several to have the ground track line back up with the launch site, so reuse may only be daily," Musk stated in his post. "This means that ship production needs to be roughly an order of magnitude higher than booster production."

Though Musk is known for making bold statements, his views on SpaceX have been level-headed, even in the wake of his controversial remarks. According to Musk, his schedule projections are frequently aspirational.

"We want to talk about dozens of launches a day, if not hundreds of launches a day," engineers have "designed Starship to be as much like aircraft operations as we possibly can get it," according to Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX's second-in-command, who stated as much last year.

In order to lift millions of tons of equipment into space for a Mars civilization, SpaceX has to launch Starship this frequently. Furthermore, a significant number of these launches will be the starship refueling tankers required to carry out the interplanetary journey.
