This was a big one. The 50th time it's been held. So it began in 1967, when Canada turned 100 and this year Canada celebrates its 150th birthday. That was the theme for the Seniors float and they rose to the challenge.
There were many participants back for another year and many that I hadn't seen before. Lots of crazy, comic, Creeky floats, the log rollers were pretty cool. It was great to see Barb Teghtmeyer, the Parade Marshall, with Jack Elsdon's restored truck. There were a few cool trucks and tractors and, of course, lots of horses. There seemed to be fewer children than in the past. I loved the decorated bikes and also the Shriners airplanes from the past. But, as always, the firefighters were there to spray the crowd with water and they brought along a bagpipe band for good measure. There was lots going on at the Community Centre and at the Yoga Studio. That's the great thing about Bragg Creek, the mix of western traditions and alternative lifestyles.
