This is how I think about step 1 in Alcoholics Anonymous with my personal story of how I got there.

Step 1 in AA reads:
Admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.
For me, the powerlessness was pretty cut and dried by the time I got into the rooms of AA. The unmanageable part was little harder to grasp. I did get it, though, and not a moment too soon.
