In this video, we discuss the exciting new hardware changes that will be introduced by Apple. The Apple Reality project is a 20-year long plan to replace the iPhone with a headset that will be able to plug into millions of existing apps and allow for new ways of creativity in three-dimensional space. The device will use eye and hand tracking and will have a crown-like feature that enables users to switch between VR and AR modes. The home page will look similar to the iPhone and iPad, with re-organizable app icons and widgets for weather, calendar, email, and stock performance. The headset will have FaceTime software for advanced video conferencing, productivity tools such as external monitor for a Mac, and its own operating system, xrOS, with similar features as an iPhone. Gaming, VR content from Apple TV+, and health-tracking functions are also expected to be popular offerings. The first product, Reality Pro, will focus on professionals and is expected to cost around $3,000. A cheaper follow-up product, Apple Reality One, is expected to be released in late 2024 or early 2025. Apple has postponed development of its AR Glasses and is focusing its resources on Reality One and refining xrOS. One source has compared the release of the first headset to the debut of the first Mac personal computer in 1984.

The new Apple Mixed Reality Headset, dubbed the Reality Pro, is rumored to have impressive hand and eye tracking capabilities and a lighter design. It promises to solve the latency problem and nausea that VR headset users often experience, with an integrated processor said to be the best in the market. The headset is also said to have an outward-facing camera, allowing the user's face expressions to be visible to the outside world. The critical question is what the "killer app" for this device will be, and whether it will be virtual meetings or LIDAR Photography. However, the powerful processors have led to concerns about overheating, and the battery has been relocated to an external pack that lasts about 2 hours, but is reportedly large and heavy. Apple plans to showcase the headset through a "store within a store" concept, and sees potential for the device to drive sales of other products. It may be marketed as a consumer product or a developer prototype. For the launch to be successful, the developer community needs to create amazing apps and the device's price needs to be reduced, as well as improve battery life. It is unlikely to reach the same level of success as the iPhone, but has potential to find its own unique value proposition.
