President Joe Biden’s threat to withhold some weapons from Israel if they fully invade the southern Gaza city of Rafah has sent political shockwaves throughout the world. The warning could be one of the toughest tests in the 76-year relationship between America and Israel.

“We're going to continue to make sure Israel is secure in terms of Iron Dome and their ability to respond to attacks like came out of the Middle East recently. But it's just wrong. We're not going to supply the weapons and the artillery shells used," President Joe Biden told CNN this week.

The administration has long been worried about the humanitarian toll a full-on assault of Rafah could take on the one million Palestinians sheltering there. The U.S. delayed sending 3,500 bombs that the President acknowledged played a part in killing Gaza civilians. The administration continues to push for a ceasefire deal and not an all-out invasion of the city.
