Asthma is a chronic lung condition where the airways become inflamed and narrower, making it more difficult to breath eat times and engage in everyday activities. One severe form of asthma includes eosinophilic asthma, which is driven by a high level of white blood cells, called eosinophils in the airways. Eosinophils are a type of immune cell that can help our body respond to infections, however, when they become overreactive, such as in eosinophilic asthma, patients may experience excess mucus production, and severe asthma attacks. In this video, we will be covering Dr. Manali Mukherjee’s research, which aims to explore autoimmune mechanisms in asthma.

This YouTube video was made by McMaster University students Mohmedsabir Gangdani, Hassan Khan, Josephine Ku, and Achsuthan Panchadcharam in collaboration with the Demystifying Medicine McMaster Program.

We would like to thank Dr. Manali Mukherjee for reviewing the content of this video and providing valuable feedback and insight into the relationship between eosinophilic asthma and autoimmunity.
