In this conclusion to the series about the origin of Geology, we focus on the debate that launched geology into a modern science.
The question was how were rocks on earth first formed?
One group of scholars said that rocks were made in water, and were named after the god of the sea - Neptune. The other group, led by James Hutton, said that rocks could also be formed as magma and were named after the god of the underworld - Pluto.
