Alberta Parks along with many other partners held a "Bear Conflict Solution" event at the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area on May 11, 2019. It was another in a long series of events held over the past several years, designed to help people avoid or deal with wildlife encounters, particularly with bears and cougars. As we live in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains, we live among the highest concentrations of predators in North America. We meet them on recreation trails and they visit our homes and ranches. There is really only one way to deal with a problem animal - that is to avoid conflict. Protect livestock, secure garbage and feed and be prepared to protect yourself when you encounter a predator.
Besides lots of interesting demonstrations, there were excellent presentations by biologists and others who deal with conflicts on a daily basis. It you ever hear about an event, don't hesitate. It might save your life.
