When you boil water what do you see happening to the water? Does it change its form? Water is in a liquid state. When you heat water it changes into water vapor which is gas. This transformation from liquid to gas is called evaporation. Evaporation is also used to make salts. Ocean water is really salty. This water is left to dry under the sun. The water evaporates and all you are left with is salt.

Just like evaporation, condensation can be seen in our day to day lives. Condensation is changed in the form from gas to liquid. When you take a hot shower, you can see the mirrors steaming up. After a while, this steam turns into water. This is because the hot air comes in contact with the cold mirror and condensation takes place.

Evaporation and condensation are two important elements of the water cycle.
