"Demystifying Emergency: What to Expect in the Emergency Room” will be an animated video walking the audience through what a typical emergency room visit might look like, and what to expect, with a voiceover for the entire video. It’ll start from the perspective of arriving at the hospital in an ambulance, but will also explain what the process might look like if someone drives themself or a friend to the hospital. The video will show the average person’s visit, including some common complications that may arise, with examples of expected wait-times, and what the environment might look like, to ease any potential concerns and provide a bit of reassurance. The video will be educational to a lay audience and the general public, suitable for children, the elderly population, and anyone in between who needs to visit the emergency room. Along with the animations, there will be text on the screen highlighting important sections, as well as subtitles throughout the entire video to increase accessibility and be as inclusive as possible. The video aims to increase transparency with emergency room visits and ease concerns or anxieties that may arise, due to the sense of helplessness and uneasiness that may be experienced on an average visit.

This video was made by McMaster University students Lauren Beck, Amaani Khan, Leen Alsamman, Maya De Luz in collaboration with the Demystifying Medicine McMaster Program.
