Elon Musk Just LEAKED The US Space Force's Plan In Orbit!

For its new Starshield satellite constellation, SpaceX has secured its first contract with the US Space Force.

A Space Force spokesperson admitted the $70 million one-year deal in a statement provided in a report.

Despite the fact that not much is known about Starshield, SpaceX has disclosed several important details. For example, the initiative will make use of the same broadband technology that is present in the company's constellation of Starlink satellites, but it will be specifically designed for government usage, especially by the United States military and its affiliated agencies. A project website is also available from SpaceX.

"Starshield leverages SpaceX's Starlink technology and launch capability to support national security efforts," according to the website.

The project will have three primary purposes, according to the same website: communications, Earth observation, and hosting "the most demanding customer payload missions." The third purpose is available to a wide range of instrumentation and mission types. "Starshield satellites are capable of integrating a wide variety of payloads, offering unique versatility to users," says SpaceX.

High-speed internet connectivity is mostly provided via SpaceX's consumer broadband communications satellite network, Starlink, at locations without an established internet infrastructure, at sea, or in remote areas.

From SpaceX's Starshield page, it is said that Starshield would provide "additional high-assurance cryptographic capability to host classified payloads and process data securely, meeting the most demanding government requirements." This means that Starshield will offer better encryption levels than standard Starlink satellites.

As the company and the Pentagon develop the new military-focused constellation, Starshield's capabilities and range may be enhanced by the satellites' ability to communicate with current Starlink satellites via laser communications systems already present in SpaceX's massive broadband constellation.

The business has applied to launch roughly 30,000 more satellites.

Meanwhile, the US Space Force stated Thursday that it will collaborate with two companies, Rocket Lab and True Anomaly, on a first-of-its-kind mission to demonstrate how the military can repel "on-orbit aggression."

On this mission, a Rocket Lab-built and launched spacecraft will pursue another satellite created by True Anomaly, a Colorado-based startup. "The vendors will exercise a realistic threat response scenario in an on-orbit space domain awareness demonstration called Victus Haze," a statement from the Space Force's Space Systems Command said.
