SpaceX's Falcon 9 SUCCESSFULLY Launch Bandwagon-1!

In response to the increasing need for mid-inclination orbits, SpaceX launches bandwagon rideshares, a ground-breaking development in easily accessible space exploration. This effort represents a new phase in human space exploration and development, intended to supplement their current Transporter series of rideshare missions.

Hey folks! Welcome back to Elon Musk Evolution, where we bring you the most recent news about Elon Musk and his multibillion-dollar companies, space news, and the latest science and technology.

The Bandwagon-1 rideshare mission was launched by SpaceX on Sunday, April 7 at 7:16 PM EDT (23:16 UTC) from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at Kennedy Space Center (KSC).

11 spacecraft, including a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite for South Korea, were carried on this mission for six different customers. The payloads are intended to reach at least one deployment orbit at a height of approximately 590 kilometers, with an inclination of 45.4 degrees. Details on this flight's second-stage activities have not been made public by SpaceX. It's probable that certain payloads will also be deployed at a lower altitude.

B1073-14, a Falcon 9 booster that has flown nine Starlink flights, Amazonas-6, CRS-27, SES-22, and ispace's first HAKUTO-R, is the one utilized for this flight.

The Falcon 9's first and second stages separated at T+2:14, when the main engines of the aircraft shut off for this mission. The booster then flipped around and completed a boostback burn, sending it back to Landing Zone 1 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS), about nine miles south of the launch pad. At T+7:32, the booster touched down.

The mission assigned to SpaceX support ship Doug was to retrieve the payload fairing halves from a distance of about 600 kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean. In the Indian Ocean, southwest of Australia, the second stage will reenter.

This was SpaceX's fourth Falcon launch in April and its 35th mission overall. This is the third of three flights in three days, demonstrating the company's continued rapid pace of launch. Starlink is scheduled to launch from CCSFS on April 10th, marking the next SpaceX flight. The next SpaceX rideshare flight to Sun-synchronous orbit (SSO) will be Transporter 11 in July.

Unlike the popular SSO destinations of the Transporter rideshare flights, Bandwagon-1 will be the first SpaceX dedicated rideshare flight to a mid-inclination orbit, in this case, 45 degrees. Customers wishing to launch small satellites to a mid-inclination will now have an additional choice, keeping their satellites over inhabited regions of the world instead of offering the complete worldwide coverage of polar orbits. Recent years have seen a high number of flights to comparable orbits being supported by Rocket Lab's Electron spacecraft.

There are now just four Bandwagon flights shown, despite the fact that the SpaceX rideshare website specifies three Transporter flights annually through the end of 2027. This also happens to be the number of satellites that need to be launched in order to complete South Korea's 425 Project constellation, one of which is currently on Bandwagon-1.
