John "Dredj" Red used to take care of Ki when she was still young. Her father Archie XIII was still in a coma after getting shot in the eye. While her Mother was too busy with Police work she couldn't be around her all the time.

So good ol' Dredj.. Natalie and Archie's most trusted friend volunteered to be her guardian. Ki has many fond memories with him and Dredj was proud to be able to take care of another child one last time before his untimely demise.
