The origins of the Kabbalistic Sefirot remain mysterious even after more than a century of historical research. However, recent studies have shown how an otherwise purely monotheistic theology began to generate a system of multiple divine emanations. Attempting to bridge the gap between divine transcendence and immanence, early medieval Jewish scholars began to transform the Divine Glory (כבוד) into a quasi-angelic being. More esoteric circles would eventual speculate that this "Unique Cherub (הכרוב המיוחד)" was actually an emanated, manifest aspect of the Divine visible to prophets and mystics but not the target of prayer which was reserved for the Hidden Glory (כבוד נסתר) known as Akhatriel. This Divine Angelic Emanation circle would greatly contribute to the Proto-Kabbalistic speculation that would eventually give rise to the system of the Sefirot.
