At OBC, we support individuals who wish to establish either a Non Profit and/or Charitable organization to obtain a separate legal entity from the individuals who are either directors or members of the organization. We have not increased our pricing for Not for Profit and Charitable organizations as our way of giving back to the community.

In this video we discuss the difference between Non Profit and Charitable Incorporations, examples of each and what the requirements and benefits are under these two different options to incorporate.

A Not For Profit, focuses primarily on supporting individuals within the community such as a hockey league or residents association as examples. A Non Profit does not have the ability to provide tax receipts with donations made by either individuals or corporations. Some of the most commonly registered nonprofits are service clubs, sports clubs and community associations. A Not For Profit organization is known as many different names, including NFP, NPO, NGO, Not-For-Profit, NonProfit, NonShare and corporations without share capital.

A charitable organization includes the non profit status and, with charitable clauses, are able to obtain a charitable tax number through the Revenue Canada Agency. In order to gain the ability to provide tax receipts, the objects of the corporation must be geared to a charitable organization and the organization must obtain their charitable tax number from Revenue Canada. Some common examples of charitable organizations are advancement of religion, such as the registration of a church, services for seniors and private foundations.

To get started you will require the following information:
- Name of Corporation
- Address of Corporation (a home address can be used)
- Minimum of 3 directors (legal names, addresses and signatures required)
- Objects for the corporation ( There are pre approved objects provided in Ontario that you may select from, or you can provide your own wording. A Federal incorporation requires your own wording.)
