Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume has slammed the Albanese government for “failing to tame inflation” which has made Australians “poorer”.

The Coalition is calling on the Albanese government to prioritise cutting spending and lowering inflation in the May Budget.

“This government has spent an additional $209 billion over the last two years,” Ms Hume told Sky News Australia.

“I don’t know about you, but do you feel $209 billion better off?

“Quite frankly, what you’ve seen, what everybody has seen, is a drop in their disposable income.

“It’s not just that you feel poorer, you are poorer, and that’s because this government has failed to tame inflation, has allowed interest rates to rise higher and stay higher for longer.”
