For all the people thinking that the shadow is due to the refraction of light due to heated gases surrounding the fire and not due to fire itself, here's what you need to know...
Fire is the rapid oxidation of material in the process of combustion releasing heat, light and dust particles. So dust particles are a part of fire.
Flame is the part of the fire that is visible to our eyes. Since the light from the flame overshadows the dust particles, we cannot see its shadow by the light of the flame.
But when we use a light source (here flashlight) brighter than the flame, we can see its shadow. There may be some Refraction too, but the major cause for the shadow is due to the dust particles.

NOTE: So flame doesn't cast a shadow, fire does!
