The 2022 floods exacerbated the water crisis in the flood-affected areas of Pakistan. Safe drinking water was hardly available which forced the communities to drink contaminated water, leading to water-borne diseases.
IFRC launched the Pakistan Monsoon Floods Emergency Appeal of CHF 40 million to reach 1 million people in the flood-affected districts across the country.
As part of flood relief efforts, 13 water treatment plants were deployed in Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. Hygiene promotion sessions were conducted in the flood-affected areas to highlight the importance of hand washing and maintaining cleanliness among the communities.
To meet the drinking water requirements of the communities, 98 hand pumps and 5 solar water filtration plants have been constructed in the flood-affected areas.
World Water Day is an annual United Nations observance day celebrated every year on 22 March that highlights the importance of freshwater and advocating the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
This World Water Day, we celebrate the resilience of communities who stand at the forefront of climate change and our efforts to provide them with safe drinking water.
