Hi Travis and Suzi! Welcome to part three of my second piano concerto series. Even though Brahms is one of my favorite composers, I struggled with having the level of affection for his two piano concertos as I do for much of his other music or the piano concertos of Beethoven and Schumann. For me, his piano concertos at first seemed fussy and tight like the neck pour of a newly opened bottle of whiskey. Over time though, thanks to some amazing performances I heard, I have come to love them. I think you will too thanks to this amazing pianist, Yuja Wang. Also in this performance, we see the return of the Russian conductor, “Toothpick,” but without his toothpick. Here is the last movement of Brahms’ massive four movement Piano Concerto No.2 in B-flat. And finally, here’s another original haiku that has become the hallmark of the series: “Little Miss Muffet; curds, cider, whey, and spider; tickled inside her.” (Please start at 40:03 and play to the end.)
