The book “The Grapes Of Wrath” by writer John Steinbeck dates from 1939. The album “Dust And Dreams” came into the world 52 years later. Does this have anything to do with each other? Well, quite a bit, since this Camel record is based on this American novel. The story is about the major problems that arose after the fall of Wall Street in 1929. Unemployment took on major forms and on top of that came the so-called dust bowl. The dust bowl was a process of months of great heat and drought, which made unemployment worse, because agriculture was dying in front of you. It also became too much for the Joad family from Oklahoma. The family decided to leave their parched soil and try their luck in California. This book and thus this Camel album is about the journey and adventures of the Joad family.
For this video I have used the songs; "Dust Bowl", "Go West", "Dust Out", "Mother Road", and "Hopeless Anger". Together with more than a hundred photos of Dorothea Lange and Russell Lee.
