➡️ I've been aware of Sublime for many years, and have always known their sound the second I hear it out in the wild. However, I've never given them a critical listen or dug deep into the warm, smile-inducing grooves from bassist Eric Wilson until today. I've seen the most requests for their hit single "Santeria" from their self-titled 1996 release, and almost got up to dance before the song's 30-second mark. You can't help but internalize those funky bass grooves as they weave through that spacious, Reggae-driven chord progression. I discuss his distinctive "improvised" bass line approach, how he leans into so many different rhythmic subdivisions permitted by the song's slower tempo, a discussion on his phrasing, why the grooves rarely repeat themselves, how his lines build anticipation inside the chord changes, and much more! 😉✌🏼🌿
