CrossCode is an overhead action-RPG from Radical Fish Games that released in 2018 for Steam (the full game, that is - its Early Access release was 2015), and 2020 for consoles. It was designed to pay homage to similar types of games from the 16-bit and 32-bit generations of consoles, so the graphics bear a stylistic resemblence to Chrono Trigger and/or Final Fantasy VI, and the soundtrack by Deniz Akbulut has songs inspired by the likes of Chrono Cross, Grandia 2, Phantasy Star Online, modern Kirby games, and several others. Personally, I highly recommend checking the game out if you haven't already.

The game's version of this song has the internal filename "exposition.ogg", which makes sense considering it's played during some emotional story beats with plot exposition (part of the reason I felt it might work as a cross-examination theme, in fact). I used VGMTrans to extract a MIDI of "Testimony ~ Allegro 2001" from Phoenix Wright 1 along with the instruments to have a starting framework for this cover, instead of making it from scratch. Converting the melody from 3/4 to 4/4 time was also a bit easier than expected.
