Surly he would have known that if he and Alicent Hightower had any sons, it would cause an issue in terms of the succession as there would be those who would back the claim of a son no matter if Viserys named Rhanerya his heir. Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen was trapped on Dragonstone by her brother King Aegon ii with no way to escape her fate.
