In New Mexico, Billy the Kid gets involved in the Lincoln County War, killing several rivals and eventually becoming a wanted fugitive.

Wanted in the states of Arizona and New Mexico, McCarty was apprehended by Sheriff Pat Garret. He was sentenced to death in court for murdering Lincoln County Sheriff William J. Brady and one of the police officers.

But McCarty, who managed to escape from prison without being executed, hid in different places for two months. Despite this, the police eventually located him at a farm in the Fort Sumner area, and Billy the Kid died at the age of 21, after a bullet from Garret's gun during the shootout.
