āž”ļø My first time seeing New Order bassist Peter Hook play was truly something else. I absolutely love when bass players flip everything about the instrument on its head and break new ground, because I honestly haven't seen a player approach a song like this within such a commercial act. Many of you asked me to check out Peter with comments suggesting "Joy Division - New Order", and I assumed it was a song šŸ˜… - I will return to Joy Division soon, but was quickly intrigued to dig into a brand new (to me) band. New Order's music video for "The Perfect Kiss" was an interesting starting point, considering nothing about Peter Hook's bass performance was traditional. I discuss his simple yet melodic approach, how the song's synth and bass roles were completely reversed, how the synth parts stacked so many contrasting melodies together to create a huge sonic wash, and I break down exactly how Peter navigated his parts through each layer as the song progressed.
