In 2001, I decided to spend a few bucks at the dollar store so my family members could open silly gifts on Christmas Eve and then open the good stuff on Christmas Day. It was a HUGE hit and became a family tradition. My little brother Stephen HATED it! But I looked forward to it every year. I relished the look on his face as he opened up a miniature snow globe with a penguin in it or a coffee mug with a googily-eyed pepper on the side.

In 2007, I decided to write a song. As I was shopping for dollar store gifts, I turned a corner and saw a mother with 2 small children, a son and a daughter. She was helping the kids pick Christmas gifts for their dad and for their grandparents. It struck me that some people only have a few dollars to spend on Christmas gifts... and "Dollar Store Christmas" was born.
