Evolution is central to 6LACK’s new album, ‘Since I Have A Lover.’ Just ask the man himself. “I love to remind people that who I was yesterday is just not who I am today,” he recently mused to Zane Lowe. “It’ll never be that way sonically… spiritually… emotionally.” On the surface, the catalyst for the growth documented in his first album in five years is the titular lover. One can’t help think, however, when he repeats “I know it's been a while, since you heard from me” on the album’s second track “Inwood Hill Park” that he’s referring to his parched fans. They’ll definitely be quenched by these 19 tracks, which further prove that 6LACK is one of the most boundary-pushing dudes in the alt-R&B landscape. We caught up with the “Calling My Phone” singer while he was on tour in Europe. Consequently, the whole band was dialed. As you watch “Talkback” and “Fatal Attraction,” you’ll notice yet another evolution: 6LACK really commands the stage these days.
