In the video (SO MANY CELLS!!! Straight Pour for Beginners), I am creating an acrylic 'skin' to use in an abstract painting I am creating for a show. The painting will be very colourful, so I chose some really pretty colours for this open cup pour. Feel free to use any colours you like. I used silicone in about half my colours to get so many cells and it really worked!! I wanted a fairly 'busy' vibe for my particular project. I will be sharing some more content on my new 'style' which combines pouring with abstract art, so stay tuned for that!
With acrylic skins, you can peel them off the plastic, and they are flexible like a piece of vinyl. You can then adhere them to your canvas wherever you want and paint around it to incorporate the two styles together. In this case, the colourful cells!!! represent new leaves on spring trees in an abstract way which will appear on the top of the painting and then reflected in a body of water along the bottom of the painting.
I decided to forgo the voiceover this time. Please take a look at my pouring tutorials if you want more detailed info about how to create pours... I used the same mix here... 2/3 floetrol to 1/3 paint and about 3 drops of silicone in 3 or 4 of the colours stirred lightly. I then just poured it on 'open cup' style, then did some swiping and some blow dryer finessing to thin it down more (otherwise it would take days to dry, lol!).
I hope you enjoy!
