미혼 남성 80만명. 결혼 전망 암울

Welcome to yet another edition of Issues and Insiders.
I'm Min Sunhee.
Marriage is looking to be tougher for Korea's men than its women.
For more I have Doctor Heo Nayoung at Shanghai University live on the line.
Doctor Heo it's a pleasure.
I also have Kwon Soa with us.
Soa welcome.

1) Doctor Heo, let's begin with details of your research including its results.

2) Doctor Heo, what do you believe are the main reasons behind this gender imbalance?

3) Now Soa, do tell us more about Korea's past preference for baby boys, and I believe this was not simply a national trend though?

4) But Soa, over the past years, there has been a shift in this preference from boys to girls, right?

5) Doctor Heo, speaking as a scholar of sociology, how do you explain the shift in preference from boys to girls?

6) Beyond Korea, Doctor Heo, I understand that bleak marriage prospects are also the reality in a few other countries.
What more can you tell us?

7) Doctor Heo, what do you propose to raise the prospects of marriage for men in countries where they outnumber women?

8) And Soa, statistics do prove that international marriages in Korea have been on the rise, right?

9) Doctor Heo, generally speaking, quite a number of young adults here in Korea are shunning marriage.
Again, what are your suggestions to tackle this social concern?

10) Soa, for the sake of some perspective, do tell us why a growing number of young Koreans are choosing to stay single.

All right.
