Wood in water features, including the housing habitats for our Alligator Snapping Turtles, is important for several reasons. One of the most important is that having wood in the water provides a substrate for beneficial bacteria to grow. Differnt strains of bacteria grow in and on the different types of substrates. The wood also creates an environment that is natural to the types of places Alligator Snappers hide and well, especially the young.
