This excuse is extremely common. I already know about it, and I actually considered covering it in the video just to preempt the people who would inevitably whip it out. I don't buy it. Never have.

I've always been pretty open about my hobbies, and I've never encountered this problem ever except once, when I was in like sixth grade. I politely asked the dude to dial it back a bit, and he stopped. There, was that so fucking hard? Failing that, you can ignore them, or tell them to piss off. They will take the hint.

It's just an excuse people use because they don't want to admit to themselves that they're afraid of being judged. That's all it is. "BUT BUT BUT!" you exclaim in a spray of Cheez-It crumbs and spittle. "How could YOU possibly know that about ME? Stop ASSUMING shit." Again, I'm making an educated guess based on the limited information I have. Though it seems pretty damn obvious if you ask me.
