The Salkantay Trek is one of the most popular and challenging ways to reach Machu Picchu, one of Peru's most famous historic sites. The trek takes about 5 days to walk the approximately 72 km distance from Morepata to Machu Picchu.

The trek offers diverse landscapes, including snow-capped mountains, subtropical forests, and highland plateaus. Along the way, you will see breathtaking views of Mount Salkantay and Mount Humantay, traditional Andean villages, and Inca ruins.

Day 1: Drive from Cusco to Morepata, hike to Soraypampa and camp.

Day 2: We will hike to the highest point of the trek, the Salkantay Pass (4,650 meters above sea level). From there we will descend into the valley and spend the night in Chauray.

Day 3: We will walk through a subtropical forest, cross several rivers, and camp in the small village of La Playa.

Day 4: We will walk through coffee and avocado plantations before arriving in the town of Aguas Calientes.

Day 5: On our last day we will hike to Machu Picchu.

The Salkantay trek is a challenging yet rewarding experience that offers a unique perspective on Peru's natural and cultural wonders. However, the trek includes steep slopes and high elevations, so bring appropriate hiking gear, including sturdy boots, warm clothing, and plenty of water and snacks.
