We recently learned about the historical context behind the "eenie meenie" rhyme, so we thought we would share a very brief summary here:

While the origin of "eenie meenie" and other counting/choosing rhymes like it seem to cross a lot of locations and languages going back pretty far, during times of slavery in the U.S. there was a (seemingly pretty popular) version that used a racial slur for Black people instead of the word "tiger." While it's clearly not related to the meaning of Chung Ha's song at all, we wanted to mention it because it is important to us to be mindful of these kinds of histories.
