The album was spread over two discs, the first a conceptual piece entitled 'Essence', the second, 'The Hard Shoulder', is a collection of harder rocking tracks. Run time for the two combined is over 110 minutes.

This song is 'Essence', performed in 2019 at the Marillion Weekend in Port Zélande, Netherlands as part of a full performance of the 'Essence' portion of Happiness is the Road.

The original album was produced by Michael Hunter and Marillion and recorded at the band's Racket Club Studio.

The band line-up which recorded the album was - Steve Hogarth (vocals), Mark Kelly (keyboards), Ian Mosley (drums), Steve Rothery (Guitar) and Pete Trewavas (bass)
