In December 1944 Germany launched a highly ambitious offensive against US troops in the Ardennes, aiming to strike a knock out blow to the Western Allies.

US Troops from the 101st Airborne Division defended the town of Bastogne resolutely, until they were relieved by General Patton's Third Army.

In this video we introduce some of the key elements of the battle, and look at a specific story from the tiny village of Lanzerath, which saw action on the first day of the battle.
