Gravity is the force that holds our world together. Learn how gravity makes many things possible on Earth. Without gravity we would not have life as we known it. We would not have rain, waterfalls, waterslides and oceans. People would not be able to play sports or enjoy the snow.

The Greek Philosopher Aristotle noticed that objects were attracted to the center of the universe in the 4th Century BC. His center of the universe was the Earth. He documented his discovery. He was partially right. In 1666 Issac Newton studied Aristotle's writings and discovered that gravity is a universal force. All objects have a gravitational attraction to each other. This is why the moon orbits the Earth and why the Earth orbits the sun. Without this universal gravitational force we would not have a constant source of heat on the Earth. The moon would not be there to provide light at night and tides in our oceans. Gravity truly is the force the keeps our world together.
