The story starts with Ragini practicing for the competition of her music institute. On the other hand, Ragini's grandmother taunts the other participants for wearing short dresses and compares them, with her grand daughter, Ragini. An organizer comes and informs, Ragini about her turn which is next. Hearing this, Ragini's grand mother asks her that how does the person know her name, but Ragini claims ignorance about the same. Ragini's grandmother then tells Ragini that she has to win the competition is between her and her arch rival, Swara. Ragini's grandmother then goes and takes her seat in the audience and hearing the final announcement for, Swara feels very happy that Swara has not even turned up for the competition. Seeing the happy expression on Ragini's grandmother's face, Swara's grandmother tells her that her grand daughter will never back down from the competition. This is a story of two neighboring families set in Kolkatta, one a conservative, traditional Marwadi family which is Ragini's family and the other an effervescent, liberal Bengali Family which is Swara's family, who have a very different set of value systems.
