Is a cat a wild animal? How wild are domestic cats?
In this video, we’ve listed 6 reasons your cat is wilder than you think!
Domestic cats still have much in common with their wild cousins. Cats are self-domesticated. They aren't attached to humans in the degree that other domestic animals like dogs are, but they couldn't be called wild, either. They evolved to live near humans because it was the best way for them to survive; in the wild, they're quickly outclassed by bigger, badder predators. Cats were not domesticated in the same way dogs, cows, pigs, and goats were. ... Unlike dogs, whose bodies and temperaments have transformed radically during the roughly 30,000 years we've lived with them, domestic cats are almost identical to their wild counterparts—physically and genetically. Domesticated cats all come from wildcats called Felis silvestris lybica that originated in the Fertile Crescent in the Near East Neolithic period and in ancient Egypt in the Classical period.
