I'm finishing up my College Football StudyBall Series on the top six quarterbacks. I'm sticking with six for the most part because I believe these are the six guys who could possibly go in the first round of the draft, which I'm covering for the NFL Network. I may watch some of the other guys, but probably won't do a StudyBall on them. However, I'm happy to discuss them over Twitter.
Today, we're looking at JJ McCarthy. I know a lot of people have him in different places; some have him all the way up in the top five, while others see him as a first-rounder. You understand why there's some debate: he's obviously a great winner at Michigan, but was never asked to carry the football team with his right arm. That can be something that can cause concern. We've never seen him have to throw; if you look through the stats, it was hard to find a game where he threw more than 30 times. That's going to be commonplace in the NFL. So, is he that kind of quarterback? I think that's what everybody is trying to figure out.
For this first game, I chose the Purdue game because it was the one time that he threw for over 300 yards and threw over 30 times. So, it gives us a chance to dive into a game where he was asked to do more than in other games. Let's dive in and take a look at what we see. #jjmccarthy #nfldraft #nfl
