Hello folks! Today I'm going to restore a small hatchet with a small weight for small jobs, which can fit in a backpack and go hiking in nature. In the process of work, I will correct it and get a working tool. Well, let's start the restoration!

The first duty was to remove the rust with the help of a tool. Then he placed it in water with soda to neutralize the acid. I dried it and immediately started creating the handle for the axe. The task was to create, or rather lengthen, the handle. If you leave it like this, then there will be only one grip, and it will be difficult for them to work more precisely without lengthening in any way.

So I came up with a simple but effective way. Cut a groove in mild steel to fit the size of the short shank of the axe. Align everything, adjust to size and remove the chamfers. Next, welding with a semi-automatic machine, sanding of welding seams and now the future handle is ready.

The next step is the heat treatment of the axe. Initially, I did the steel normalization process 3 times, and then quenched it in oil. The tempering was done at a temperature of 180 degrees Celsius for two hours.

The next step is the profile of the handle, which I turned on a sanding machine and manually completed. I also added interesting and thematic drawings on the head of the axe using a solution of nitric acid.

I chose wood and brass for the handle. Brass rivets, also made a hole under the strap for a better grip. After processing, it became possible to keep the axe in two positions, for chopping and for processing or cutting something. I also made a leather case for the axe, so that it would be possible to transport it in a backpack and on a belt.
Well, as usual, I conducted a test, but this time it's celebratory! I hope you like this restoration video. Thank you all!

Sauce recipe: Tomato paste, spicy Georgian adjika (you can just add spicy adjika), khmeli suneli, dry cilantro. Fresh cilantro, salt, sugar and garlic. The cooking method is the same as in the video.
Veal meat and caul fat. Cut the meat into pieces and wrap it in a caul fat. Fry until cooked on the grill like me. Enjoy your meal!

Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!
