CBC Newsmagazine takes viewers on a tour of the basement of the post office in Ottawa, where men sort the millions of pieces of mail that pass through the facility each year. On trial is an automation system with an “unfailing memory”. This mechanical brain can store the names of the 13,000 cities, towns and villages in Canada, and do the work of 500 human sorters.
