For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been seeing nothing but headlines telling me about how awful the Megamind sequel is. Seeing how critically panned the sequel was made me want to see what made the original so loved in the first place. I went there to Peacock to see what made the original so great. Only to find out the movie is no longer there on Peacock. I also know that Dreamworks tends to put their movies on Netflix for brief periods, so I checked Netflix, only to find out it’s not there either. So basically, Dreamworks purged Megamind from all streaming platforms to try to get you to watch their god-awful sequel, and the only way to watch the original is to either buy or rent it on Prime Video, iTunes, and YouTube. This is kind of funny, because streaming was created to be a more convenient alternative to straight-up torrenting, but in this context, torrenting is starting to look like the more convenient option. If you don’t already own the DVD, you have to pay to watch it. Speaking of DVDs, that leads me to the point I’m trying to make with this video. That point being, why physical media is still important in the year 2024.
