THE DRIN, Dylan Mccartney's from The Serfs reductionist solo recording endeavor, now turn into a 6-7 piece live band of fucking chaos, has unleashed the huge dark post-punk power of "Down River in the Distance". An unexpected obcure paranoic masterpiece, where is also involved his Serfs' colleague Dakota Carlyle, that in Dylan's own words, "It's meant to be a cursed, degraded composition to accompany a forlorn journey along a river, with strange images just out of sight... like a dream". Released on vinyl by Future Shock Recordings in the US and Mangel Records in Germany.

"Just out of clear vision, shaded by thick plumes of dancing black smoke rising from the towering cylinder, just a few miles down the highway by the drainage basin
there's a menacing shape --
can't make it out
some kind of a primeval hum emanates from it and glides through the fog that's resting just off the water, the last vestige of an all-but-eroded memory
a few of them heard it too
and with bugles and drums and ugly carols
they march their way down
to try and make out
what it could be."

Made by Dylan Mccartney at the attic in the village by the cemetery with ancient tapes, several drums, two or three synthesizers, a bass guitar, shakers of a few sizes, a cowbell, a century old bugle, a broken melodica, two tambourines, the "thing", a harmonizer, a destroyed contact mic, barely functioning buzzing amplifiers, sounds of the 1401, two warped electric guitars, a hand drum from my late uncle Gordon, a computer on the brink of a fatal crash, consumer grade microphones, a truculent flanger, a few bottles of ouzo, a bevy of self-induced paranoid delusions, bridges between Cincinnati and Kentucky, the companionship of a frightful cosmic tale, the solitude of the forsaken spot, vivid and visceral nightmares, red lights, night rides and poisoned air.
Dakota Carlyle made electronic sound and played electrik guitar on 2, 3 and 7 and designed the album artwork.
