My 3rd myth: People often express fear about "crazy people" being a danger.
Myths In Mental Health Stigma.
However, psychopaths ("psychos") and sociopaths are violent, but schizophrenics usually nonviolent. Psychopathic and psychotic have different meanings altogether.

I see the etymological overlap, but people with schizophrenia are far likelier to harm themselves and are unlikely to be a danger to others. People do not go back and forth between psychopathic and psychotic. Psychopaths are a group of people that are likely to commit violence, including serial and mass killing. They rarely show symptoms of schizophrenia.

BC Schizophrenia Society is running a campaign to raise awareness about myths and facts regarding schizophrenia.
