In 2017, Carole Baskin was asked to be a judge for the Cat Summit at the Jackson Hole Film Festival. This particular panel discussion was about Cecil the Lion and Carole was asked to speak on the Zanesville massacre and the affect on change it had for big cats.
She was on the stage with Ian Michler (Director of Blood Lions) on her left, and Will Travers (Director of Born Free who funded the film Blood Lions on Ian's left. Jeff Flocken, the moderator, who was on the far left (or Carole's far right) was the Director of IFAW in 2011 at the time when Rose Church (pro bono attorney for Ian Somerhalder, the teen heartthrob from Vampire Diaries) asked if Carole could get the "cat people" together. She had originally contacted Carole on Ian's behalf because he wanted to do something about Tony the Truck Stop Tiger but at that time Big Cat Rescue had done all that could be done legally. That was the beginning of the Big Cat Coalition who decided that day in D.C. to take a 3 pronged approach to ending the abuse commonly referred to as The Big Cat Crisis.
